First Mod
Hey yall I'm kinda new here only made a couple post and so far you guys have helped me alot....Thanks. Well I've got a 93 250 4x4 cummins with an auto trans. I'd like a little help with what to do as my first performance mod! The tranny all ready has south bend valve bodies so unless I go crazy it should be good for awhile cause it was just rebuilt about 3000 miles ago. The truck is completely stock besides I got rid of the exhaust and its now straight pipe. I plan on lifting it to tuck 35x14-16.5 and would like some decent power to turn them and still play with the little rice burners. Any help or pointers would be great. Thanks in advance........ Andrew

The first thing to do is to get a Boost gauge, a Pyrometer (EGT) and a Tach. Then you'll have a better idea about what's going on. You should consider a trans temp gauge also.
Then you can do the following:

if your going to 35s go with 4.10 gears get a 35 spline locker and some junkyard axels (35 spline Dana 70) for the rear cause you have week 23 splines now
you will want gears to keep that tranny happy JUST MY $0.02... then pyro boost then pump mods there free find a baseline then turbo ~ 400 to 1500 bucks to start having fun DUDE I'M A FORMER METH HEAD (2.5 years with no drugs or alchahol) BUT THIS IS MORE ADDICTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! |
Why go with 16.5's?? Is that what you have now?
If not, I wouldn't recommend switching to them because your tire selection will be limited. And the really cool part is you will pay more for tires! [nonono] I only say this because my truck came with 16.5's on it when I bought it, and it needs tires now! Good luck! |
Thanks alot guys the truck already has dana 70 rear and dana 60 front and 4.10 gears. I was already going to put pyro, tach, boost, and trans temp on the truck. The only reason I was gonna go with 16.5's is because I wanted to put ground hawgs on it and they dont come in 16 in rims. But the main reason I wanted them cause my buddy had them and the do really good in mud and wear nicely on the road but if you guys got a better tire to go with I'm always open to others opinion be it good or bad. Thanks again guys

If you do much offroading, a 16.5 is a bad choice because of the lack of a safety bead. If you air down much the tire won't stay on. You might want to look into Pitbull tires. The Pitbull Rocker is a good all around tire and they come WIDE. They clean very well. I am running a set of the 39.5s, and on a 10" wide rim the section width is right at 17". I have only lost one bead, and that was at 9 psi.
TSLs are always a good choice also. |
Hey yall thanks again. Well I started body work over this past weekend. I put a new door on the driver side and a new bed on it and removed all the trim and bondo'd the holes. Its primed and ready for the od green paint. I had my first experience non free floating rearends! Thats about the most ****** up thing I've ever seen. It was quite a experience let me tell yea. She got a new sound system also the lift and tires go on next weekend hopefully.

Get a set of hummer wheels recentered. 16.5 and double beadlocked.
