First Gen

Hey out there!
Anybody had any luck tracking down a trans temp sensor switch for a 46RH tranny. Maybe a way to make overdrive work with an updated part. I'm at the end of my rope. Does anybody have any more rope?

you can jumper the plug ( close the circuit ) and it will work regardless of the trans temp.

If I were to twist the wires together bypassing the sensor and thus closing the loop, I would still have overdrive capability?
That's what I thought; however the technician, Brad @ "Jess Dodge" of Omak Washington said that would not work. I'm baffled.

Welcome to DTR. Dunno anything about "Jess Dodge" but to most of the dealer techs in my area our trucks are dinosaurs and not worth knowing about. I'd trust people on here WAYYYY before I'd trust a dealer tech. The only dealer tech I'd trust to know anything about a 1st Gen is one who drives a 1st Gen.

If after closing the circuit on the temp sensor and you still don't have OD then your may have a bad, or miss adjusted TPS.

99% of the time no overdrive is a TPS as long as everything else is working like the A/C, cruise, speedometer etc. I don't believe I have ever seen a trans temp sensor bad unless it was just leaking.

And we have plenty more rope and duct tape around here.

Thank you for the help. I will check the TPS. What ever the problem is, it's doin weird things. I took the truck back to the guy that did the transmission originally and he said there is nothing wrong with the temp sensor. He hooked it back up and OD is functioning properly. So much for the dealer$hip.
