Firestone Air Bags

Is anybody runnug a set? My camper weights in around 2500#'s I have a set of active suspension springs but there must be something better. I think that the way the air bags attach, outbouard of the frame instead of centerline with the springs would give better stability.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

i have the kelderman airride and seems to work real good and when i load it down it pumps it back up to ride height and my chevy 3500 has firestone ride rights and for the heavy loads work well

I have run firestone airbags on my last F-150 and have packed some incredible loads with them. I hauled a 1100lb camper with an A.T.V. rack that a friend and I custom designed to fit in my reciever hitch. The rack weighed 100lbs., and my A.T.V. weighed 400lbs, and this was all AFT of the rear bumper, so you can just imagine the leverage!! . I currently run the same firestone airbags on my Dodge. My reason for this is I run a half ton suspension in my truck, I get the added articulation and primo ride of half ton springs, but when it comes time to haul my camper it's no problem with some air in the bags. When your lifted six inches and run 36 inch tires it can get pretty hairy with your camper in the turns. With 40 lbs in my firestones there is virtually NO sway. One of my co-workers has a 91' d-250 that he uses to haul a 10ft camper and he has overloads installed. I almost lose the fillings in my teeth when I ride in his truck for 5 minutes to get lunch!! Bonus with airbags is that you get a relatively smooth ride with a load as well. To make a long story short, my airbags are one of those purchases I made that I felt I got my moneys worth and then some. Hope this helps and good luck!!
P.S. if you view my photo gallery u can actually see my airbags.

I’m running the Firestone bags with Skyjacker Softride springs and I love it. Truck still rides like a truck, but it’s smooooooth compared to stock when the bags are empty. I can put 2000# of firewood in the bed, pump the bags up to 40 psi, and the truck levels right out.

Jim, I see that you have the Centramatic balancers. How well do they work for you and what size tires are you running? Did you spin balance your tires first? I tried not spin balancing my 295/75R16 BFG All Terrains and only using the Centramatics, but the vibrations were horrible. Then I spin balanced the tires and everything smoothed out. Makes me think the Centramatics either don’t work at all, or don’t do enough for these larger tires.
