Mine came on once when the wife was driving. She called and said the low fuel light is on. I said keep driving you have lots of fuel. She called back about 5 minutes later, truck quit. Doh!

The low fuel light is supposed to come on when you have 8 gallons left.

I think each truck is different...
When my low fuel comes on - and stays on ---
I only have about 75 or 80 miles to go - I think....
Longest I've run it was 65 miles on the interstate after the light stayed on, and
the fuel gauge was dead on the E line.
I only put in 27.35 gal of fuel, most ever.

My Dad's low fuel light is always on in his '92. It drives me nuts. My fuel is never below half.

He can drive around quite alot with the light on. He'll just throw in $5 or $10 to keep it "topped off"

Actually on both the '93 and the '89 the low fuel lights work. I have not really driven the '89 enough to know it's personal traits.

On my '93 it consistently comes on when the needle gets to about 3/16's of a tank. If I fill up right when it comes on solid, it usually takes about 23-24 gal. If I run until it is sitting on E it takes about 26-27. I have went below E and never ran out, but that's when it was warm out.

I have the window sticker for mine (actually it looks like a copy of the original)
and it claims a 22 gallon tank.

The standard is 30, at least for the diesel. Maybe the gassers had a option of a 22 tank??

i have the window tag too. it says standard 22 gallon but it also says extra 10 gallon tank. this is the lowest i have ever let the truck get. i tried to prime it and see if i could get it to start without having to bleed the injectors but nooooo. it was weird cause i had cruise control on and sometimes when i hit a big bump (messed up hwy101) the CC shuts off so i try to put my foot into it and the CC had it floored haha
