FASS Fuel system for 1st gens???
FASS Fuel system for 1st gens???
I have been browsing the advertisers websites just trying to gain knowledge, and also to prevent future problems. I have been on the FASS website looking at fuel system parts, and they show nothing for the 1st gens. Is it because they aren't prone to the same problems as the 94 and up trucks? I am concerned because the FASS website indicates that when the fuel tank is 2 feet lower and 10 feet away from the lift pump, this is asking for trouble. Well since my tank is farther away than that, it makes me wonder if I need to do something to prevent problems. Is this something I should worry about? If it is, can a person use a 94 up system and modify it to work on a 1st gen? Any opinions out there on this?
The mechanical pumps work quite well on our trucks, and on the '94 to '98 trucks as well. Why anyone would want to put a FASS on a '94-'98 is beyond me.
Personally I think the whole air in the fuel thing is unimportant.
When you start to really put a lot of fuel through the system, the stock pump can't keep up. I think a couple guys are running a FASS. BGilbert is running an Aeromotive.
A lot of 1st gen guys have switched to piston style mechanical pumps, but some of us have found that even that is not enough. I'm running a Walbro with a bypass regulator after the filter, it keeps fuel pressure between 15 and 18 psi.
Any 1st gen that needs more than a piston pump is probably not a practical tow rig any more due to EGT issues. In "valet" mode my piston pump keeps fuel pressure over 10 psi - more than adequate.

Thanks Wanna. I can always depend on you for good information. I guess that explains why they don't offer these parts for the 1st gen. I just got concerned when the FASS site mentioned the fuel tank being 10 feet from the lift pump. You have seen my rig and I was afraid that maybe since I had lengthened the frame putting the engine behind the cab, and then relocating the tank under my cab putting even more ditance from the pump I may have created some out of the ordinary problems for myself.
