Ok I am still trying to understand this. I have a W250 badge but I have D70 with 4:10 posi in the rear with 12X2.5 rear brakes. In the front I have 6 springs and in the rear I have 7 spings. This is all from the factory and I bought it from the Original Owner and he said that he ordered it this way. I am asking the same question. Also what is the real difference between the SRW W350 and the W250 rear brakes? So was my truck missed badged? If so could I put some W350 badges on it?

Sorry I just having a heard time understanding all of this .

I've never had the rear brakes apart, but according to the stickers on 91 and 93 W350 SRW's, they have 2.5" wide shoes, which is what a W250 comes with. I've had 3 of those. All Diesel first gens come w/ a D70 rear,no matter what. The 4.10s are irrelevant. I used to think the difference was in the springs, because my W350's had more leaves than 250's I used to have, but then I picked up a W250 w/ the factory overload springs in the rear and an extra leaf in the front, as stated on the sticker under the hood. That GVW remains 8510 though. W250 GVW is 8510, W350 SRW is 8700, and apparently there isn't a difference anyone can find. On my last W350, a 93, the sticker said 5000# front axle, but it was a D60, just like every other 4x4. Who knows?????????

The differences are much more pronounced on gassers. A W250 gasser would have lighter front springs and a D60 rear, so moving up to the W350 would make a bigger difference.
MY opinion is that wannas explanation was on. I dont think Dodge botthered to rebadge a truck that just had upgraded springs. my question was somewhat answered about the numbers, and also that they all had the good D60/ D70 combo. This W250 is a mess and too much for me to get into, i do know that.
When i finish my D250 it won't have badges at all. I want to 'sneak' around in my diesel

Well Dodge put the wrong information on 2 separate trucks I had then...The only factory trucks that had 3" brakes were duallys.

If it's not the brakes, then I can't tell what the difference is between a 250 and an SRW 350. There's really no difference in how they are spec'ed in the dealer sales book. Spring ratings are the same, axles are the same, it's just that the 350 has a 190 lb heavier GVW.

Thanks for all the info I guess just like crossy said it is just a 250. That is weird why the PO put all of the 1 ton options on the truck but never ordered a 1 ton truck. Doesn't make any sense but oh well.

Thanks to everyone

Can anyone comment on the frame height, I have heard there is a difference?

On a side note the only difference between 2.5" and 3" brakes is the shoes and the wheel cylinder, same drums etc.

Also, I have worked for people that have re-badged their trucks for roadside check point purposes, it sure could have been a fluke but I was waved thru every time.

My 93 W350 and my current 92 and 93 W250's all have 8" tall frames, as measured under the drivers door. I can't remember on my 91 W350, I don't think I ever looked/measured. I tried to think of any difference when I had my last W350, the only I could find were the emblems on the side of the truck, the GVW on the sticker on the drivers door, and the front axle rating was 5000# on the sticker under the hood vs the 4500# on the 250's. Maybe the 350's have 9/16" wheel studs? That was one thing I never thought of comparing.

Now here is a question for anyone who can answer. The sticker under the hood on my truck says 2.5" brakes. When I did the brakes and ordered parts the guy had nothing available on the computer for the D70 with 2.5" so I got 3" unsure at the time of what I really had. The brakes went together no problem and work fine with the 3" shoes. I never even thought of it until this thread. Is what was mentioned earlier about the drums being the same size for 2.5" or 3" true or did the P.O. upgrade this? The truck used to gooseneck a bulldozer frequently.

The drums are the same for both sizes.
