exhaust manifold bolts- reuse?

I think it would be better to get new bolts, but for the sake of arguing, is there any chance I could clean up the old bolts and use them? Or am I asking for another leaking gasket? I'm leaning toward replacement, but having trouble finding them through Summit, evilpay, and napaonline.

You could get away with it, yes. But for the minimal cost of new bolts and not having to worry about breaking any of them in the head, I'd strongly advise getting new bolts. Give them a liberal coating of copper anti-seize, torque to spec and you're laughing.

You're best bet to find a replacement is go straight to your local Cummins dealer. If not, take one of the old bolts and go down to your local fastener shop and get them to find you a match.

I got some studs from McMasters-Karr or what ever it is. Had to buy a box so I have a bunch left over if you want some.

KRB, do you have 12? I'll send a PM.

Next problem is the manifold to turbo gasket. Don't want to try to reuse that either. NAPA doesn't have it listed, just "manifold to pipe" and it's only got one big hole in it.

We have a Fastenal here, but they close at like 4PM and only open weekdays.

And I found my can of copper anti-sleeze in a tray on the back of Corry's toolbox, so I don't need to get that. It was in the plan as well.

Oh, and the oil feed line to the turbo, is there supposed to be an o-ring or something in there? I found some debris around the hole under the fitting.

It's a flare fitting so no gasket of any kind. The debris was likely paint that chipped off when you disconnected it.

The gasket with the single hole is the right one. Just put one in out of a Holset rebuild kit.

I blew and scraped the paint off it before opening it up. But I doubt the turbo has been off before because I could barely get the socket on the drain tube bolts for the paint on them. The debris looked like it was something that had been put in there.

The gasket I took out has two rectangular holes in it to match the holes in the manifold and turbo. I'll call NAPA in the morning and get it ordered. Maybe Sunday I'll be able to get the left front corner together.

Can you tell which one was leaking?

NAPA had to go into their books to find exhaust gaskets, after I ordered the 6 for the manifold, and forgetting the one for the turbo, I called for the third time yesterday, got a third person, and ended up finding out that they stock the exhaust and intake gasket kits for these motors, and that it should have all the gaskets I need. We'll see. If not I'll have to come up with something for the drain tube. Didn't find a gasket there but didn't try pulling one off, either.

Looks like the part number through Case IH is 2852744, for a 5240 tractor.
