I have to go through opacites(spelling?) here in arizona, and I have no muffler, they never look to see, just stick the probe over the stack and tell me to hammer down. You may have to go through an inspection there though? Just call the dmv/mvd they will tell you, if you want to wait on the phone long enough.

Are they testing for obnoxious exhausts? The muffler isn't going to do a thing concerning emissions.

That doesn't sound right. Here in Ontario, Social Republik of Canuckistan, if you are over 10,000 lbs you need opacity. If under it is just a visual.

Hey, not all of Ontario is that bad!!! No emissions at all up here if you're under 10,000... LOL My truck wouldn't pass either test... And my 6.9? No hope in hell... LOL

As for the OP, a muffler doesn't effect the emissions, so, it shouldn't be required equipment in that nature, but, if they are concerned about noise, they'll probably ding you for it.

I'm not from CT but in some cases I believe their weight could be based on your registered GVW. You need to check to see if testing is based on your your registered GVW.

From the CT website:
Diesel vehicles under 8,501 lbs. and 1996 and older will receive a dynamometer test if they operate in two-wheel drive and are non-traction controlled.
So if it applies to "registered GVW" and your registered GVW is 8500 and your door tag shows 8510 you would be tested. The part worth investigating is if you can increase your GVW to 9000. The way that reads it would seem to make a 9000 GVW truck exempt because it's now over 8501. Call them back and ask about having a truck that is pre 1996 and registered at 9000 GVW. In PA it is perfectly legal to register a truck with a sticker GVW of 10,5XX to 11,000 GVW.

None of our trucks would need to be tested in CT as long as they are registered for at least their GVWR. D/W250 GVWR is 8510, so we are 9 lbs over the break point. <whew> If you are registered light, they will want to test you.

well took it to emissions today

ran it on my friends dealer plate...20 dollars, they used a dyno type machine where the rear wheels spin, they did not test sound (decibals) the only thing on the slip was opacity (i think is smoke, the amount, and darkness) but i passed, it said i was putting out 156 horse, the truck is completely stock, but has one huge muffler on it

cant wait to cut muffler off and make it a straight pipe!!!!
