Electrick window problems

So i recently got a 1990 d250 5spd. With automatic windows and locks. The windows only rolled down when i have the key in the the acc position but not when the truck is on. The other problem im having is that i rolled down the driver window and now its not going back up. The passenger window and lock still work. The driver window motor does not make any noise when i hit the button. So is the motor bad? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The problem for your driver window not going up could be a number of things. If it rolled down without a problem then you could be looking at a failed switch or broken wire, or just a bad connection at the switch or the window motor. As for only having power with the key in Acc., sounds like it could be the ignition switch has failed or is out of adjustment.

Or, as many of us have found when we first bought our ride, is hay wired.

Windows should operate in the run position only. If they were wired to the auxiliary circuit, that should let them work in either the run or the aux position.

I'd bet on trouble inside the switch itself. If the windows were wired to the aux circuit, it probably would overload said circuit, and burn out some contacts.

So my best bet is to get a new switch and check the wiring. If its not that. Then its going to be the motor itself. Right?

Your best bet is to get the wiring diagram (easiest way is to get a genuine FSM) and trace things out to find the faults.

Common faults are bad switches, broken wires in the door hinges, (a broken wire in the left door can kill the window in the right door) and of course worn out motors.

The fastest and least expensive route to a fix is proper diagnostics.
The slowest and most expensive is to throw parts at it.

Well i changed the switch ans still didnt work so i went ahead and replaced the motor. And that was the problem. They had already drilled out the holes for the window motor so made it easier on me. Thanks for the help guys!!
