electrical question

Does anyone know what the ECM looking box behind the front drivers fender is? It is a metal enclosure with vent slots punched in it and a whole bunch of wires going to it. I have '92 w/12valve, 5 speed. The only thing I can come up with is possibly something to do with the cruise control but I think the brains to it are behind the glove box? I just noticed it today while chasing some problems with lights and was wondering.

It is the SBEC (Single Board Engine Controller). It runs the charge air heater, cruise control, instrument cluster, and contains the voltage regulator as well.

Electrical question ?

I have a 91.5 w/intercooler. Does the engine controller on mine contain a
voltage regulator also. My truck has one on the firewall with factory wire connectors that appear original. I have major charging problems that are avoiding solution. Could this be it. New everything and I have 16V to the batt. at idle. Batt. is boiling. R C

You have an external regulator. Its bolted to the firewall under the hood. About 2 feet left of the master cylinder. Just go buy a new one(there $15 or less). Make sure you have it grounded well because that can cause just as much damage. Save your old one for an emergency.
