Electrical problems with the dash lights?

under the dash there is a big white plug or harness that is not connected to anything and i found that one of the prongs was a key on power wire that i cut the wire to and ran for my key on power wire for my cd player and now cd player works but not my dash lights. When i pull the *** for the headlights they come on but not my dash lights. I tried puttin the wire back into the plastic type plug and they still dont come on. If any body could help it would be really apprec.

Did you check the fuse for the dash lamps?

Was it a round plastic plug? If it was, it should probably be plugged into the back of your gauge cluster.

Do your marker lights work? Start there. I believe the dash lights and marker lights are on the same fuse.

I know in the "good ol' days" the dash and tail lamps were connected. I dont have a wiring diagram for that rig, but I know Chrysler used Orange for dash lamp wiring for a long time. You really need a wiring diagram to diagnose properly. Otherwise, start where you have power (the switch, etc.) and work your way to the problem.
