Are you sure you did not run out? Acts exactly the same. The cutoff is at the back of the pump with 2 wires going to it. Mine and many others will vibrate off. They need to be on and tight. Also the wire will sometimes vibrate until it breaks in two usually right close to the connection. If you have a test lite make sure you have voltage at the terminal w/key on. Then you will know if power is there the solenoid may be bad. The solenoid on 1st gens can be taken apart and take the guts out of it reinstall and it will get you home. There is a lever on the side of the pump you can use to shut it off when you get home (the key will not do it). R C

The shut down solinoid is under the AFC diaphram housing. Check the wires first. IF that isn't the problem the plunger may be stuck or the coil may have gone bad. I have pulled mine twice and both times it was a female dog. I had to bend an open end wrench 45 degrees and remove part of the bracket that was in the way with an angle grinder. To make it easier I even removed the air pipe from the intercooler and removed the throttle bracket. The first time I could move the solinoid with the wrench. The second time I had to loosen it with a hammer and chisel, which I didn't mind so much because I was guttiing it anyway.
