Electric Fan Mount

Welded up a fan mount out of square tubing. Mounted two 12" fans with room for two more 8" if it is an especially hot summer. The mount fits down into the shroud clips and bolts to the top radiator tabs. Works really well!

Awesome!! Do you plan to build some kind of a shroud at all?

No shroud for now, just use stick on foam weatherstripping around the edges. I have found those "through the radiator" plastic round zip ties tend to act as saws on diesels and cut tunes eventually.

You might consider designing some flaps to put in the spaces above & below the respective fans so that the air wont go around in circles while at a stop. The only ones I can think of were on 1979 VW Rabbits. When at speed they open to let good air flow.

Never been a fan of those either. I guess in a pinch and a temporary situation they'd do but I'd rather have a more permanent, clean/professional looking install.

Some time ago I tilted my radiator straight up and started running electric fans. I have always had to be careful about money, so haven't been able to plunk down mega bucks for a custom dual fan shrouded solution. I first went with a Taurus fan but the motor would hit the fan hub under abuse which ruined the radiator. Then I tried the round zip ties and those chainsawed my radiator. That's why I built a frame that the fans are attached to and only tough the radiator with 1/2" foam weatherstripping.

If I want them out of the way I just unplug the power connectors, remove two bolts and they are out.

Works great except idling in town about 90 deg. The engine stays cool enough but the A/C over pressurizes. I might stick a pusher in front of the condenser if I can do it without ruining the stock look of the grill.

That is basically the same set-up I did....to run two 12" fans and use the factory mounts. The fans seem to be OK in cooler weather...but get close to 30*C and those little fans barely keep the temps under control at idle, and that is with no AC running.

Mine never seems to overheat. I don't even use the fans at all in the winter and spring until I need the intercooler or A/C. It will run hot when pulling a heavy in the heat of the summer.

Why are you guys removing the stock fans? They work great.

I had to find a new cooling fan for my hot rod years ago. Here's a video of what I installed.

The stock fan is a giant power sucks. It works awesomely well, but not worth the performance hit. Every vehicle I have ever had except the hemi road runner got electric fans. Big difference.
