EGT's. Where do you draw the line?

Mark your ballot (above) as to where you pucker-up?
As far as this poll goes, I would think a regular work-truck (constant heavy pulling) might not apply.
Naturally, 1250*F is for a 100% duty cycle (WOT all day long).
I pretty much use my heap as a play toy. WOT 0mph to the posted speed limit (
) blasts here and there. Otherwise Sunday driving.
More fuel is more power. I don't want to toast my mess, but I do want to run it for all it's worth.
What say you?
Thanks,
David

For a play toy I'm not concerned about seeing 1300-1800*F. Long ago I had one of the first PowerStrokes, 94, and would bury the pryo at 1800*F when I was tugging on a sled. Truck had 152K when I sold it and ran fine.
The B listed in my sig I ran to 1200-1350*F continuous in the work truck it was in before I pulled it for my project truck. What EGT an engine will withstand depends on many variables, but air flow (not necessarily boost PSI) has a lot to do with it. If you stay around 1400* or so it'll live a long and happy life, especially as a toy and not a tugger, my .02

i only use my pu to pull loads on the farm. 5-6 ton loads of hay over mt.hood. i want to make it last so if i am on a 20 min hill i keep it under 1250. may have to shift down alot easier than a repair. so far haven't turned a wrench on her under the hood execpt filters. coarse it has not broken 90k on the pu yet.
I take the old girl to the 1600 peg on the guage quite often when I am drag racing. but it does'nt stay there long at all. I can take her up to 1400 just passing another rig. I just try not to let it stay long at those temps.
When towing I won't let the Egt's exceed 1000 to 1100 for any length of time, pryometer accuracy is a big concern. I need to install a 2nd one to confirm.
When I'm drag racing I won't even flinch, might not even notice where the pryo is at.

I've hit 1400 pulling a small trailer with another 1st Gen up a hill, but it was near the top, and I know Banks (they arent known for pushing the envelope) says 1300 all day long is ok, so 1400 for 40sec shouldnt hurt. I normally dont hit 1250 running empty.

I took my wife down the drag strip last spring and after the run she asked me if I even look at the piro. I told her that I know for a fact that it will only go to 1600 because there is a peg there to stop the needle. She gave me a real strange look.
