ECM fixed my problems
ECM fixed my problems
Evening gents... I signed up on here about 2 yrs ago when I decided to keep and fix up my old 92 CTD ... my first post was concerning the wait to start light flickering (start out dim then grow brighter as it flickered) , the alternator not kicking in to charge battery until the flickering stopped, OD kicking in and out, and speedometer kicking in and out.
Fast forward ... one day after being gone from DTR for a month or so I try to log into my account and can't... long story short had to delete my account and now I don't have those original posts that I first started ... anyway...
I finally tracked down a used ECM at a reasonable price ( thanks Chip) many of you had suggested checking grounds , this, and that ... which I did and thank you very much for the help ... j martin was most helpful and some others in walking me through wiring an external voltage regulator until I could find a working ECM... I had found an old thread I think it's in the sticky that Wannadiesel had posted about checking if your ECM is bad... I followed the instructions and mine checked bad...
Finally installed the new to me ECM yesterday and WALLA !!! Everything popped right back up and worked just like it should!
If someone can find my first post and tag it to this thread then perhaps another someone having the same problems can get the answers they need.
I notice a lot of open ended threads that leave you wondering if the problem was ever resolved or if there is a better fix ... etc...
Anyways I've rambled enough ... just thought I'd let you guys know that the ECM was the fix to the original problem I had that lead me to join DTR and start asking a bunch of questions and learning a bunch of stuff about these old beaters!!
Thanks again... SD
