Dump valve the same on a chevy?

Anyone try to install one from a Chevy. Dodge stuff is not common here and unavailable new. I have seen chevy stuff... just a wondering if it would plug and play without any line changes- just a connector.

Are you talking about the rear ABS valve? Or the optional valve that adjusts braking based on suspension height (payload)?

The only GM valves I've seen are for the latter, and do not have an electrical connection.

The rear abs hydraulic unit...

Looks like if you added front abs sensor, you could possibly use the ABS unit off an astro van from thej 90s?

I don't recommend GM's early 4-channel ABS. In fact, I feel its downright dangerous... the average person can outstop it reliably on most surfaces. It uses 4 individual wheel speed sensors. The 2-channel RWAL may have potential but since it uses a tcase/trans speed signal, its probably a different pulse rate than the one off the diff.

If something else might work easily on the Dodge, check out the 80's (up thru 91) Ford setup. Same style of tone ring mounted on the ring gear... same Bendix drum brakes. I think the unit itself is mounted on the frame under the driver's feet.

I had my bacon saved by the ABS brakes on my Astro van. Broad was stopped in the left lane at an intersection with her right turn signal on in heavy 70+ mph traffic. I was in the left lane, car in front of me snapped right, I dynamited the brakes and steered around her. It was a very smoky and noisy maneuver, but the steering was precise.

ABS brakes are not always great.

I had a 91 Chevy S-10 Blazer with the 4 wheel ABS system. A couple of times I got into situations where I needed to instantly stop at very low speed on dry pavement in a short distance. The ABS by preventing wheel lockup allowed the vehicle to roll several more feet and one time collide with another car when it would otherwise have stopped short. There have been reports of pedestrians being hit because of ABS systems not stopping the vehicle.

ABS is fine for allowing you to steer when you stomp the pedal but sometimes you just need to stop quickly even if it's sideways.

We only have rear ABS, when the fronts lock up you can't steer anyway.

^^^Like he said. RWAL is a terrible system. I had several instances in my 1995 CTD when i had to pump my brakes to maintain steerage and the entire system stopped working due to the RWAL. In one instance the brakes locked up and wouldn't release for 10 seconds (thankful for the soft snow plow pile I slid in to.) In another instance, after pumping the brakes 5-6 times the brake pedal went hard and brakes would not apply for 30 seconds. Guard rail kept me out of 15ft deep ditch. 4 wheel ABS is useful. Handy in a scrape even. RWAL is a **** poor idea that some engineer should be kicked in the nards for. RWAL has also sent more than a few lawyer's kids to college.

RWAL has been eliminated from my rig.
