Dual Disk Clutch

Why does a dual disk clutch for a diesel cost so much more than a dual disk clutch for a 1000hp gasser? Dual disks for diesels are in the $2200 range and this http://www.keislerauto.com/store/sho...asp?search=yes is less than half the cost. -Jim-

I have an idea i am not sure though. For one you would have to know the torque for the 1000 HP gasser Because it is not to hard to hit 1000 pd ft in a diesel. That and i think that the pressure plates have to hold alot more because of all the torque at a low rpm where as on a gas they can use the centrifgal weights because the gas makes the most power way up there in the rpm range and just the speed of the motor helps to hold.

I dont know i may be wrong if i am i will be interested to know why i have always kinda wadered that too but that is the only thing i could think of.

Manufacturers realize that the high performance diesel industry is a fastly growing industry, so why not cash in on it , that is exactly why all diesel performance parts are so expensive.

Those disk's are 10.5", Diesel's are 13"
Their's doesn't list a floater/center plate, mine has a 1/2" billet one (SBC)
Their's is a diaphragm (sp?) pressure plate doesn't say what load, mine is a 4 finger plate 3850 lb plate load.

That would be part of the difference.

Like dezlsmkr said, it's the torque. A 1,000 HP gasser would be lucky to make 800 ft. lbs, my wimpy Con-O can hold that.
