Dripless Oil?
 

This fellow is selling several (nice) Mopars on ebag.

He says that several have been undercoated with "dripless oil". Anybody familiar with that? Is that a commercial application I assume? Not just spraying the bottom with used motor oil right?

Its up there in the "far north" so I also assume that they use salt on the roads eh?

ha, maybe he sprayed em with bar and chain oil, that stuff is pretty much dripless if you don't put on too much.

Spray the underside with used oil then head down the nearest dusty road. Makes for a decent under coating. You have to redo it every year though.

Kinda how they "repave" our roads, just chip and tar.

I want to get some of that "dripless oil" for the crankcase!

I didn't realize it would be so easy to fix those drips!

Hey!! He's actually south of me!!:) The dripless oil is a specific product for rust proofing .It's kind of a waxy oil product that sprays on and creeps a limited amount over the sheet metal and prevents contact to the sheet metal .Doesn't do to bad of a job,but must be repeated atleast every second year .It's not cheap to apply and any area missed or without decent coverage has a tendancy to rust.

They have a special air gun and it would be about $125 + to do a fullsize extended cab . As I said before ,it has to be done atleast every second year and it's better to do it every year. Almost more effective to use some used or even new engine oil and run down a dusty road. The engine oil will run into all the crevasses .

Maybe I just don't quite understand... I can understand undercoat and other systems that dry and do not present a "wet" surface for dirt to adhere to. If those systems are to brittle, then they crack and you can get rust. My dad was always a sucker for those things that promise the world - and didn't help much.

I spend some time just keeping my underside clean - it seems like if I oil it and use the dirt road method, then the dirt builds over weep and drain holes - which leads to those areas not drying and then rustout...

I think for about the same price, you can clean, prime and paint the effected underside areas - which doesn't attrach dirt, build up water and promot rust.

Just my opinion.
