The cables going to my starter and ground are 4/0 but for jumper cables I like something I can carry without needing a cart. 2/0 would definitely get the job done though.

When I first got my truck and didn't know anything about it, It needed a new positive battery cable so I paid a dealer 140 bucks for one. After several years, it too failed, so, because I knew something about it (thanks DTR) I had one made from double 0 cable and am happy to say that it is still on there...Mark

Years ago I helped a friend clean out his dad's place when he passed away and one of the things he gave me was a a set of jumper cables about 12ft long made out of 2/0 welding cable. The difference in performance between those and the "best" parts store cables is huge. Yeah they're heavy to lug around but when you have to jump a Cummins truck with a Fiero (true story) you need all the help you can get!

My XL battery cable is probably why my truck still starts on the crappy O'Reilly battery after 2 years. Even though the battery is down to 11.3 volts after sitting a few days with the radio clock draining it, the truck still starts right up on the first cylinder to crank over the hump. I'm waiting for it to fail to start so I can justify buying a proper battery. The O'Reilly battery is fine for most V8 trucks but not the diesel. The parts guy at O'Reilly insisted it was the right battery but I was to tired at the time to argue with him.

That's the one thing I love about my truck. Outside of fuel problems it always starts on the first bump. Even in the cold.
