Doing KDP, need crank case gasket and crank seal Part #'s
 
Well I'm gonna be tabbing my KDP, loctititing the case bolts and jumping my pump gear a tooth. So I need the cummins crank case seal part # and the cummins front crank seal # so my local implement dealer can order them in for me. Thats all the seals I will need right? thanks.

Also should I use blue loctite or red on the case bolts? I figured blue oughta do the job?

Use red loctite on the bolts. I'll go through my paperwork and get a # for the timing cover gasket but I don't know the # for the crank seal cuz I ordered the KDP kit from Geno's Garage.

P/N for the timing cover gasket, 3914385. Price as of Aug. '09 is $22.79.

Crank seal kit 3804899.
Crank seal with wear sleeve 3802820.

The case cover gasket isn't really necessary a lot of folks just reuse it with a light smear of gasket maker. The gasket stays in one piece on the cover.

The crank seal can also be reused. I used my old one when I did the kdp 3x,xxx miles ago and it hasn't leaked.

I did the same on mine also but when I did them for other people I got a new crank seal.

I've heard of guys using silicone or gasket marker but I figured I'd do it right and use a gasket and be done with it. I just don't wanna put it all back together and have the seals leak so i better change them while i have it apart especially since every other seal in my truck is starting to leak.

I ordered the crank case gasket and some throttle linkage ends I needed but wasn't sure what crank case seal to get.

#3804899, he said didn't have the kit or whatever to install it and it was just the seal and was about $50
Crank seal with wear sleeve 3802820 was about $110. and I found another number earlier that is #3937111 and he said it was the same seal but had a hair different lip on it and was about $30 I think. So I was wondering what crank seal to get? he said that the $50 one would probably be a little better and be a better seal. I guess I better get it apart first and see if my shaft is grooved to see if i need where sleeve but I hope I don't. Any advice on which crank seal to get? thanks guys

I vote for a new timing cover gasket. I bought one AND used copper gasket maker on both sides of it. Not a single leak.

As for the crank seal, go with the newest one, the number bgilbert gave. It should be a teflon seal and have a white dust shield. I don't see why it wouldn't come with a driver though. When I order a rear main seal, it came with a driver. If for some reason it doesn't, PM me. I'll send you mine that I saved but only as long as you could send it back when you're done.

3804899 seal kit, has seal number 3937111 in it, a metal depth driver, a black dust ring and a plastic guide used to guide the seal over the crank. If you've already bought the kit with the depth driver, the next time you do a kdp on another truck you just buy the seal 3937111;).

Don't be surprised if the computer tells your parts guy something different. When they think kit, they think the fancy high dollar Cummins wear sleeve install tool. (Not included, and also not needed, as you can use the balancer to install the sleeve.)

Just go with the kit (3804899). If you end up needing a wear sleeve, return the $50 kit.

well my crank has a slight groove in it but after doin some searching I think I'll just buy seal kit # 3804899 and put the seal on a little farther and hopefully it'll be fine. what do you guys think?

That's what I did. When I pulled my cover, the old crank seal was flush with the front cover. Using the driver tool on the new one set it back probably 1/4" from where the old one ran. It didn't feel any grooving in my crank though.

Its not too much of a groove, can barely feel it by rubbing your finger across it. But I'm pretty sure it should be okay, at least I hope. I've heard of other people doing this and being successful so we'll see. If it leaks then I guess that'll be an excuse to tear it all apart again and put a cam in it next time[coffee]

No leaks on mine to this day and I did the KDP in August of 2009 during the head gasket project. You'll be good to go, unless you're hoping for the excuse to put a cam in [laugh].
