Does anyone's brakes work?

So I've searched and read just about every post related to brakes. I was just wondering if anyone can honestly say they have good brakes on their truck. I'm one of those guys that has replaced almost everything on the brake system but still not satisfied. Just curious I guess. I think all the time about how I can fix the problems or how to make it better.

I put new rotors and pads on mine. Changed brake hoses as well. They work well but you have to adjust the rear drums pretty often.

I have replaced literally every single brake component on my truck, all at once, with better than OEM parts. My brakes are still crap.

Yes, mine are good. All stock stuff, 12x3 drums with 1" cylinders. They were kinda lame until the booster started hissing. I replaced it, and suddenly had great brakes.

My hydroboost brakes on my one 93 work really well, so well you have to be careful when you slam on the brakes. The one 92 with the vacuum booster work good and the other 93 with the same thing, not so good.

mine worked great for about a year or so after throwing all the parts at it. The lights suddenly came on while towing 6k lbs of dirt and have been bad ever since. I am going to start eliminating stock parts, starting with a rear disk conversion this weekend. I am amazed that we all have similar problems and still don't know why. Mark

rear disc is a worthy/expensive upgrade

I put rear disks on my 79 f250 and i didnt think they were all that much greater. the conversion was cheap though.

i did a lot of brake bleeding of the rear's on the dodge and it really made a difference.

At 900 plus dollars, not that inexpensive. My reasoning is to eliminate the rear adjustment as an issue and eliminate from there. I WILL HAVE GOOD BRAKES, even if it breaks me. My kit comes tomorrow and I plan a thread on the install. Next to go is the proportioning valve, because it should not be necessary in an all disk system. Last to go will be the ABS modulator, as I said, as you all are my witnesses, I WILL HAVE GOOD BRAKES, or you're all invited to my funeral, no host bar of course [laugh][laugh][laugh] Mark

I think my kit was 350 bucks but that was for a d60.

There are less expensive kits, but I bought the EGR kit with the brand new Cadillac type calipers with the parking brake. My girlfriend wants me to buy a new truck because I am spending too much on this one, but when I write down the 40k base price and show her how much the truck I would want, if I really wanted one [nonono][nonono], is going to cost, she begins to see it my way [coffee][coffee]...Mark

Mine stops great after a serious amount of upgrading.

1. Disconnected the abs computer.

2. TSM rear disk kit.

3. EGR brake pads front and rear.

4. Super Duty vacc booster and master cylinder.

5. Bled the heck out of the system.

I guess I should have added a disclaimer to my comment. Good brakes are relative. I daily drive a Ford SuperDuty with massive cryo rotors and Brembo pads at all corners. It stops hard enough to suck a contact out of your eye. My 1st gen brakes are nothing like that, and never will be.

Did you take the modulator/dump valve out of the system?...Mark
