Death!

Well, today, somebody let something with a big hammer go in my engine (i think, clutch? dont think so...) Thought i dropped the driveshaft again, but it kept goin when i was stopped...

Not cool, cause i just put a head gasket and a bunch of minor pump mods, along with minor port job, valves, springs...

No idea what the issue is, but i have a 94 p7100 high km engine to throw in...

My only question regarding engine swap is do I have to pull the tranny and transfer case to get the engine out without any issues, or can I slide both back enough to get the input shaft free of the clutch? (5spd)

Anybody have any "stupid" little tricks or tips?

Thanks...

that's a big downer!! you'll have a bigger grin from the p-pump though.

the trans doesn't have to slide too far back for the input to clear the pressure plate assembly. maybe 4" or so.

I've got an '84 W-150. The same basic body as yours. When the engine gave up the ghost at about 330K (You'd think a gas engine would last longer) I removed the radiator support and just pulled it out the front. Two big honkin bolts at the bottom of the support and a bunch around the front of the fenders. You can leave the hood and fenders on for weather protection and while it's apart, you can clean inside the engine bay and attend to small problems while you're in there. Any front end parts needing attention are easy to get to when the engine is out of the way for instance.

X2 on that!

It's so tight, I would pull the fenders and the core support. You'll have tons of room. Do the KDP once you bolt it in there. You can just sit on a stool and work on it with nothing in the way.

Ive done this swap twice! pull the radiator support, fenders and hood and youll be good to go. One little tip... on the powersteering pump, return line coming outa the pump actually rubs on the motor mount bracket... so take a grinder to it a littel bit so it doesnt rub. Also i did some grinding on my frame where the starter bolts up...... it gets really close and my starter would kinda rub the frame. You might not have these issues but just check to make sure. Have fun with teh new motor.... ill never regret the swap!
