D350 Front Brake Upgrade?
D350 Front Brake Upgrade?
Ok so I have gone through my third set of front brake pads on my 91 dumptruck I have bought the best I can buy from a couple different local auto parts store and it’s only been like 4 months I put on 350-500 miles a week I don’t mind spending money to upgrade is there any way to upgrade the front brakes?
Brand new lines to the back rubber hose the lines on the axle new shoes upgraded to the 3 inch new drums and the largest wheel cylinders I could order you can definitely tell the rear drums are grabbing

Tried semi-metallic pads? I'm guessing auto trans?
There is also the newer pump from a hydroboost truck (97+?) that's supposed to have slightly more pressure.
I cant think of anything else... these 2wd trucks never had the best brakes.

I'm reaching back in memory because I quit the wrench racket more than 20 years ago, but it seems the best brand for longevity was always Wagner in a semi-metallic...I don't know if that's still the case...I also know there is such a thing as ceramic brake material now, but I know nothing of its quality...

I used a third gen ram hydro boost set up with second gen pump and vacuum pump, there is a heavy duty option listed on rock auto thought about giving them a try it’s not hard to replace them but doing it every couple months is just unnecessary, and shouldn’t happen, I thought about swapping in a Dana 80 rear with disk brakes and going 4wheel drive but I don’t drive it very much in the winter and if it’s that bad I just stay home or leave the house later I have a nv4500 I plan to swap in but I was hoping to wait until after December when I slow down a little and also adding an exhaust brake to the parts list
With a manual trans for primary speed control, you will be asking much less of the brakes. I'd focus on that, and try some semi-metallics in the meantime.
The extra pressure from hydroboost is probably wearing your pads off sooner, but your stopping is improved.

everyone always thinks that bigger rear wheel cylinder are better. Bigger is better right. The bigger cylinder takes more fluid and so more master cylinder stroke to get that extra fluid it over working the front brakes my truck stopped a lot better with 1” cylinders then 1 5/8 now mine has 4wheel disc
I have no answer for you as to upgrade. The problem is that from 72 to 93, ALL 2wd Dodge trucks, from a D100 to a D350 dually, take the same brake pad. I have several trucks I would love to be able to upgrade.
Dang almost sounds like you're running over loaded. Time for a Jake brake? I'm rather easy on the brakes in the Freightliner as I am not an aggressive driver. I let the jake do the work anticipating what's coming.
