Yeah, you haven't lived until you have had a sunburn in the deepest part of your armpits, pretty uncomfortable. I had a really good, young radiologist. About half way through the treatments, he came to me and said that he was going to drop the top limit of the radiation to "try" to save my salivary glands. After treatment I suffered from dry mouth for a good year or more, but my salivary glands came back. My Oncologist told me that very few people get their salivary glands back. It was the most miserable time of my life, I cringe when the drug commercials fly by the side effect of dry mouth as if it were nothing. Water didn't help much, it was very short acting and you can only drink so much water. People thought that I was always thirsty, but that wasn't it, the glands weren't working...Mark
Man, that makes my story sound like a walk in the park, glad to see you here. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in early August 2001,about a month before the attack. Makes it real easy to remember when. My first treatment was on the same day as the first post season game for the Diamondbacks. I asked them if they might hurry a bit, as I had tickets, I made it for the 4th inning. I avoided the chemo because I let them inject a radioactive dye between my toes to see if there were any cancerous nodes below the diaphragm.Turned out I didn't so it was just the radiation. Hurt like the dickens but well worth avoiding chemo. The doc said that most patients just take the chemo, something I don't understand...Mark
