Cruise controll

I am on a trip and my cruise control is messing up . It gets a little jerky going up hill and one time it even quit working. Is there any thing I can do to fix or do I have to replace?

Unhappy

I just started to have the same problem. I'd go to put the cruise on and it would hold the speed for about 2 seconds then back off then go, let off, go let off etc etc. So I turned it off and about 5 minutes later I tried the cruise again and it wouldn't work period. I checked the fuse, its good so I'm guessing its the cruise module (mounted off of the fender) or something in the PCM (which I doubt).

Mine quit working also. I have replaced the switches on the steering wheel next is the controler on the fender and the brake switch under the dash. Who knows I have a new system. Does anyone know how to trouble shoot these things?

The factory service manual has a troubleshooting section for the cruise control that is fairly extensive. Jethrro

Service manual

You can get a service manual at Auto zone or any good parts store.
I just got off a trip and I found that as long as it stays cool it works great but as soon as the temp gets up it starts acting up. as soon as I figure it out I will lel you know.

If you have a tilt wheel, the wires may have flexed once too often. They are really fine. If it looks like the insulation is piched, the wire is likely broken. There are phillips head screws holding the horn pad on, and torx holding the column cover. To remove the column cover, you need to first remove the tilt lever, then the torx screws and "split" the cloumn cover. Check your wires and repair as necessary. Good luck!
