Cross over steering
Cross over steering
Has anyone with the W250/350 trucks converted to x-over steering. What do I need to convert and where can I get the parts. It takes He*** half acre to turn around and was told the x-over steering will solve this problem. Any input will be appreciated.

I did the ORD crossover system a few months ago, be sure to at least brace the frame when you move the steering box to the 2 wheel drive position, boxing the frame and sleeving the bolts would be better yet.
The steering shaft has to be shortened.
It does noticeably help the turning radius.
I'm in the same state as ORD, but I still got the parts the next day, they were very easy and knowledgeable to deal with.

I can't believe some of you guys complain about the turning radius that much.. Compared to my Mega Cab, the old dodge will spin on a dime and give you a nickel change!!
But, I have done a cross over steering setup on my wheeling truck.. Mounted the box in the 2wd spot.. Used 5/8" bolts and nuts drilled out the box to 5/8" to pass the bolt through.. Didn't brace the frame and haven't had a problem for 3 yrs running 44" boggers.. I went with an old style reverse roataion gear box to run the pitman arm in front of the box, wan't to keen on sending the drag link under the cross memeber... But on a daily driver, I've seen some pics of guys that done it pretty nice on here.. They also put on a track bar which makes it even better.. Here is a few pics of my cross over setup..

My understanding is the box from 2wd and 4wd are the same, its just that on a 4wd there is an adapter plate between the box and the frame. So just pitch the adapter plate and mount the box directly to the frame and you're set.
sky manufacturing has a kit and according to their owner it works on our dodges (clears the crossmember). i have bought a bunch of stuff from them for my samurai and will be giving them a try as my junks worn out. just another thing to add to my list. www.sky-manufacturing.com
what I did when I bought mine was google dana 60 crossover steering and I believe offroad design.com pop's up total for kit was 400 shipped and it took less then 2 hour's to put on and it's a Very nice kit .
Man I ask a question and then get home late and you have me loaded up with the good stuff. Thanks for the info.. Leave it to DNRCustom to have been there done that, Looks good on your ride too. Again thanks guys for the info..
do they offer another brace for the 2wd trucks?? Cause when I searched for the all I found was a 4wd one, which I bought for the 92. So for the cross over in moving the box to the 2wd spot, one will most likely have to fabricate there own steering brace.. One thing nice about the 2wd location is the box sits flush to the frame which lessons the abilty for the box to twist on the frame.
