When you are rebuilding an injection pump are you mostly just inspecting, cleaning and resealing? Are there any parts in there that are prone to wearing out or breaking?

Wow old question and sorry for not answering. I usually just inspect, clean and re-assemble with new seals. Replacing the large springs under the injection head is always an option since they are prone to shattering.

Yesterday I fired up the truck to head to work and there was an awful grinding noise and the belt was making a hideous noise. Quickly shut it down and popped the hood.....water pump died and took out the belt!

Luckily I try and keep at least one spare water pump in my inventory, quickly tossed in a spare WP and an hour later I was back heading to work...left the belt on until I could get at it today.

Couple pics....

So today I swapped on my old spare belt as well as a new fuel filter since I have been having some rough running issues the last few weeks. Filter had 10K km's on it and had been in there since Sept/2017, and when I dumped it out there was a fair amount of water and some brown gooey stuff that came out. Fuel pressure is better now as well. Before it was only getting to around 5-6lbs, now I have 8-9lbs.

I lost my WP driving through Austin Tx. Made a heck of a racket and took out the belt as well. Luckily I was a few blocks from an auto zone so I coasted into their parking lot. I had tools so just swapped it out and borrowed their tool to get the new belt on. Few gallons of coolant and we were on our way again.

Well after several months of abusing my alternator with rocks, hammers and other blunt force trauma inducing implements it pretty much gave up the ghost today. Was out and about and every time I shut the truck off and got back in and fired it up the alternator would not charge, had to turn on off several times, or whack the alternator with something to get it charging again.....so finally broke down when I got home and swapped in one of my spare alternators. All seems well again.

Pretty sure it was the original Denso alternator from 1993 as well since it does have the chrysler/cummins part number still on it.

I'm guessing the brushes are stuck.

Brian,

You've probably covered it in one of your threads and I imagine it's buried by now but I'm just noticing the stub on the fan hub protruding quite a ways through the pulley. What have you done to achieve that? I'm still using a spacer and have 3-4 threads for my fan to clear the Fluidampr on my engine.

That is the OEM stud don't think it's any longer then others...well that's what I told her anyways...

I use a couple spacers between the pulley and my clutch fan to get the clearance for my fluidampr as well.

I think what I'm seeing now is in that you must have removed that spacer before taking the last picture in that post above.

Pulled Patches in for a bit of work last night. Found the loss of power to some of my added accessories was just a popped fuse....I had thought about it and was pretty sure that was going to be my issue.

Also replaced a rock shattered headlight, and changed my oil filter at the 5000Km interval, ODO is at 350500Km's!!

I also re-installed my softopper canopy, I had removed it before winter began thinking about last year and the heavy snow loads we had, but have not had them this year and really don't like the box just filling up with ice and snow.

I had picked up a truck storage box for free that need a little TLC, spent a few days and about $25 getting it back into usable condition.

My exhaust broke again...that darn 3" flex pipe was totally done this time.

Crewcab update...-bf7vutmh.jpg

So swung by an exhaust shop and got 3' of 3" pipe for the repair.

Love the band clamps....good for a few more years now.

If you look at the posts around the one you quoted you will see that it was a unit used in a newer Chevy? I modified things to make it work, more work then the benefit it provided, but was a fun project.
