Crank position sensor

Hi everyone... I took the cummins engine out of my 1989 w250 and put it in the 1992 which also had a 12v .... Where does the crank position sensor go..... To my understanding it senses the rotations of the harmonic balancer.... On the front of the engine.... Any input and pictures are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Fantastic! Thank you very much!!!

So now my question is where can I get the correct harmonic balancer and will hooking this up solve my problems?

My instrument cluster is malfunctioning temp sensor pegs when it gets warmed up.....speedometer doesn't read right..... Does the reduction gear for the speedometer that I took off of the 89 also go on this one??

On another note... I do have a draw on the battery.... However.... When I disconnect the computer something is still drawing juice from the PC.... Also where did you find the .pdf's that you posted.... I could really use more good information like that!

O and I almost forgot.... The grid heater isn't turning on. .... If I remember correctly I'm not even getting juice to the field wires to the grid heater relay..... Also does the grid heater get 12v?

Welcome to the fray. You seem to have a bunch of problems. The 92 needs the CPS to start the PCM (powertrain control module), which controls some functions like grid heaters, possibly the alternator, cruise control, tachometer, overdrive if it's an automatic.

Temp gauge problems sounds like a bad sender or a wire fault. PCM doesn't get involved with that one.

I recently bought the needed pieces from a eBay seller named Larry at "Partsitout". His phone number is on his listing.

Thanks a lot, I got a hold of him and he doesn't have anymore!

Do you think it might be possible to take some measurements and post them that way I can make my own brackets and go buy my own bolts?

I'll measure them today and post the results. I don't have mine working yet. But SW-tach #82620 has dip switch that will read 2PPR. You could also use the 2 pole magnetic pickup used by other tachs with the glued on magnetic. This is my backup plan.

Edit: Here are pictures of the pieces. the collar(spacers) have a 1/2" hole in one end and 3/8" hole in the other. This is so they can slip over the nut on the stud. Looks like a 5/16" stud.

Likely metric 8mm, only a couple thou. larger than 5/16". Often mixed up.

No doubt correct, I'm still having trouble coming to terms with my Cummins being metric...[duhhh]
