Cowl box screen or cover

Anyone have good idea or success story for keeping the leaves, junk and crud outta the cowl box which will eventually end-up in the fresh air vents and HVAC box?

Thought about taking cowl grate cover off and using plastic screen and pushing rubber cord into groove underneath the cowl grate. Same stuff to replace home window screens in aluminum mullions. Local hdwe. store carries different diameters of the rubber cord.

Screen

I have seen screens epoxied to cowl under the cover . I installed a door to open and remove junk from the inside of the heater box

I have one on my 1968 Mustang Fastback that is parked outside. I bought it from a Mustang parts website and is nothing more than a piece of lexan with push/plundge fasteners that grab the bottom side of the grate. It takes seconds to put on and seconds to take off.

I'll find one for sale and put a link to it, while way too short for our trucks a crafty person could make one.

Scroll down just a little and that's the one I have.

Thanks I've done the HVAC box cleaning. Looking for way to prevent junk from entering to start with.

Thanks a good possible solution. Just got truck back from paint and trying to protect it if it has to be outside.

I was going to do something like that with hardware cloth with the 1/8" squares.

Thanks to all! Tried the cord lock beading but the cowl grate grooves between the slots are not deep enough to press the cord into.
Ended up gorilla gluing the screen underneath. worked out well.
