Coverting Gas Truck Into Diesel?

Anyone ever took a gas first gen and put a first gen cummins in it? How difficult was it to switch over?

remove the spark plugs and install injectors, remove the distrib and install a vacuum pump. put some glow plugs in the intake, and BAM you have a Chevy/Olds 5.7 Gas converted diesel

A lot of guys have taken the drivetrain out of a diesel and dropped it in a crew cab. If you have a complete donor it's bolt-on stuff.

I have all the parts to make a complete motor, p-pumped motor, just wondering how hard it would be to change over a gasser? Didnt know about the transmissions mounts and ect?

As far as the motor gauges i could run aftermarket ones?

the easiest switch would be to take it to the dealer and in about 2 hours your done and on the way home in your new diesel truck.

9.25 dodge rear. added stronger springs to front. kyb shocks. been running street and strip for 3 years. frame hasnt cracked yet as some said it would. dont tow with it but wouldnt have a problem with 4 or 5k tag along. after a little adjusting getting better than 19 mpg in town. little disappointed in 1/8. only 8.6 sec.

That 727 must be protecting that 9.25 . I am very surprised to hear its lasted 3 years with a 97 CTD. Guess theres an exception to all the rules and myths. Is there that much of a difference in pinion size in the 9.25 vs. D70?

Wana hit it on the nose, easy swap & cheap if you have a donor truck. Still an easy sawp with out, but way more costly. ie...core supt, rad, int cooler, springs, trans the list goes on. Cheaper to buy a truck than buy the parts seperately.

I am redoing my 90 with a ctd my cab was totally rotted out from all the quarry dust in every crack and crevice. I bought a mint gasser cab and I am switching everthing over wiring harness dash board everthing. The truck is going to be a total resto.

as long as one isnt towing heavy 8.75 up drive train will handle more than most tires can put on the ground. 727 is box stock except for manuel valvebody. i have used this type of equipment since 1965. it is almost bullet proof. dont know about pinion size. to me tooth size means more than total gear size. about 4k total including truck. pic in my gallery. i sure is a fun ride. worth every penny to me

what suspension mods would need to be done in a swap like this? I was thinking coil springs and not much else. I have an 87 half ton w/ 318 that gets 12 mpg with about 125 hp at the crank. a cummins would greatly help gas mileage and power.

Yeah, as long as you keep in mind that this is a play toy and not a tow rig, just put in the springs for a diesel and it will hold up fine.
