Coolant leak
hello folks! I be discovered a coolant leak that seems to be coming from the back of the block....behind the last valve cover! The coolant is running down onto the bell housing. I’ve got to get a mirror so I ca see what’s back there! What do you all think it might be?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Sounds like the rear freeze plug.

Or the cab pulled.
I have seen a fix that involved a putty knife and a bunch of RTV slathered on to a rotten rear freeze plug...but it was a make shift fix at best.

Hmmmm. I wonder which component of the coolant mix could possibly have caused a freeze plug to corrode out, it's a mystery to me ...Mark

Try this.......

I think the bolt on block off plate for a 3rd gen will work too.

Thanks for all the help! Can someone tell me what else I should do while the tranny is out? Gaskets? I know that the truck needs new gaskets...just not sure if this is the time to do that?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Just pulling the transmission out is not going to give you much room to get to that freeze plug.
I would think a rear main seal might be a good one to replace while you have the transmission out.

Hmmm so with the engine really needing to come out I should probably also do The oil pan gasket...and yes the rear main seal! Anything else folks let me know!

Maybe you can pull the transmission and jack up the cab a bit after removing / loosing up the cab bolts.
There is not much room between the motor and the cab's firewall.

Hold on there boys, we need some more info before we can properly diagnose this.
When does it leak? When it's sitting with no pressure in the cooling system, does it leak? If not, I am going to vote for a bad head gasket. Helped a buddy change his that was leaking form the rear - the head had actually broken off the rear head bolt (stock 200K miles, never been into) and then allowed the head gasket to leak.
