Coolant Filter Addition: Is it worth the cost?

Hey Guys:

I am in the process of putting a coolant filter on my 91 per the instructions in the sticky.

I got the base ($24) Filter ($14 cummins) and fittings/hose (125).

Is a coolant filter worth $170 on these first gens?

I kinda want to know BEFORE I put everything on.

Andy

Its all a matter of prespective if you ask me. If its your dd or go fast truck why not have a little bit more pretection. Radiators, and heater cores arent anywhere as cheap as 140 filter set up. Just my $0.02

I use distilled water, antifreeze, and corrosion inhibitor which has performed without any problems in all of my present and long time owned diesel engines including the one in my highlift. Change the coolant every few years and you won't need a corrosion inhibiting filter set up.

There's a reason that all the big diesels have them...because when an engine is that important, they're worth it.

I have one on mine. It's not as important on non-sleeved motors but it sure can't hurt!

I installed one on my truck as the previous owner was not up to snuff in the maintenance department. The coolant was a dull brown and I can see scale build up on the fins inside the rad.

If you want to put one on, watch fleabay for a coolant filter for an International tractor model that ends in 66 or 86. Last I payed any attention, they were a lot cheaper.
