check engine
As some know iv been having probs out my sisters truck, so heres my problem.
The alt went out and was replaced, the computer actually had a melt down and it was replaced. Since then the check engine light has reappeared and i then changed the asd relay. Now this fixed the problem for a week or so, now the light is back on and the volt meter is again pegged at 18 volts. So what am i missing here, it doesnt do it all the time, it did it last night but not today. Thanks guys |

Thanks guys have ya tryed the jumper cable trick where ya put it on the - post and then the eater side on the case of the alt.? I have also hered of people have green moss under the inselation of the + cable to the alt. dubble check the ground from the bat to the alt if the jumper cable tick work, or fix's the probem. YOu have probable allready tryed most of them......just helping to bounce around a fue ideas. Flash. |
there's a thread in the sticky to show you how to run an external voltage reg like your 89... may be worth a shot to rule that part of the computer out.

Iv tried everything, cept external reg, id rather have it factory if i can, any more ideas ?

Check grounds, then check with a handheld multimeter. My gauge only shows about 12-12.5volts (it's moody, like the rest of the truck), but at the alternator, and at the battery terminals, there is a full 14 volts with engine idling.
If that fails to yield anything, then an external regulator is a good idea. Just mount it somewhere other than the OEM nonIC location. Daniel |
I get 18.3 , just a tad too much, if it just quit charging or keep over charging i might coukld find it, but its very intermittant.

Sounds like your "new" PCM is bad. I had a 6mo old PCM reman from DC (came with the truck) in the 93 that I had the external volt regulator bypass installed.
