I sand blasted the frame on my CC and used rust bullet on it. I put on three coats of the grey and two coats of the black. The gray dries realy hard. I ended up hitting it with the sledge while trying to get a bolt out and it didn't flake off like I'd expected it to. I also used the 4wheeler to push the frame around. It scuffed the gray but didn't scratch it. The black is kind of a rubberized coating. And no I'm not affiliated with them. I'm thus far happy with the product though. They also have a comp. between them and POR15.

guys that I've heard doing it do it right over the chassis paint on new trucks.

That said, I know what you mean but I've even seen that happen on chassis paint. I guess only time will tell if that happens or not. I guess when you do it, one ought to do it carefully and cover everything with it so that can't happen. Rhino liner bonds really well and won't chip or anything at least.

I personally use POR-15 products. The stuff is expensive, but you get a quality product. Most of the time when I hear about POR-15 failures is because the person did not prep the surfaces correctly or the UV protective coat was not used. I use regular POR-15 and then put a coat of "POR-15 chassis black" on top. My hubs are done in this paint and the results were great. I used POR-15 Marine Clean and Metal Prep to make the surfaces ready for paint. Just my 2 pennies........

I'd look at the POR-15 VS. Rust Bullet comparison. Rust Bullet smokes POR-15 and there's not near the prep work. Keep in mind Rust Bullet put out the challange, POR excepted and lost. The test was done by and independent lab.

How much Rust Bullet to do the frame. Are you guys using the standard (thicker) or automotive formula? I'm thinking this may be the stuff to use in the roof by drilling access holes and spraying with a wand. The stuff is definitely not cheap at $150/gallon!

It took 1/2 gal of gray and 1/2 gal of black to do the frame. It sprayed on very well with 1.4 tip. Not sure how it'd go on with a undercoating tip/wand. might be a little thick.
Not sure how something like this would work. I've thought about trying it before I put the head liner in my crewcab.
