I have a Pioneer head unit with a detachable face in my truck. I like it. The features and functions are simple yet somewhat complex allowing for custom EQ, subwoofer, HPF and LPF settings.

Head unit install doesn't require much skill at all other than having to splice wires together. All aftermarket head units will require a wiring harness adapter and a trim kit which is basically an adapter to accomplish 2 things, fill the area around the aftermarket head unit to fit the factory stereo opening and allow the stereo to be fastened to the dash framework.

Leaning towards the pioneer myself. I like the looks of the kenwood deck too.

This is the Pioneer unit I have. Model DEH-P6000UB. Discontinued, of course, being an old model.

I have a JVC unit in my dodge and a clarion in my mud truck. Both have been really good units but the Clarion doesn't have an aux port.

My problem with most new head units is that they are too dang bright. I have to shut off the one in the Cummins most nights.

Most of them have a dimmer input that you can hook up to your dash lights

Go through your menu and see if you have the "auto dim" feature enabled, mine is almost twice as bright during the daytime and dims itself at night.
