im no expert but it depends where you go. you should be good to go for a hundred bucks for the head unit and roughly twenty for the rest as long as your speakers are good.

you'll need the actual head unit
a new "cover plate" (should be at walmart)
and a new wiring harness connector (should also be at walmart)

What are CD's? iPod or mp3 player is the way to go now-a-days. Every head unit comes with the hook ups. Try sonicelectronix.com. They have head units that come with the install kit and usually free shipping. Good luck.

Radio replacement

I just installed a CD player with an MP3, flashdrive, in my D350. Works great. The flashdrive holds about a 1000 tunes and you load them through your computer. Your smart phone can also be used to control the unit or you can play the tunes on your smart phone through your truck radio. Not saying I can do all those things yet, but the flashdrive I loaded a bunch of CD's onto, really is handy. I'm not going to miss all those plastic cases sliding all over the floor and in the console. The remote control for the radio is easier then bending over and searching with the radio buttons. Looks to me that CD's are on their way out. The name-brand radio was about $100, new speakers were about $120.Good luck, packratc

Some of the newer ones will even sync to your phone for hands free operations utilizing your speakers.

I am running that new Sony unit that will play and control your Pandora off of nearly any brand of smart phone. Works great with my Galaxy Nexus

I went the USB route also. Trying to shove a CD into a moving target ain't easy. Plus all your music is right there at the touch of the remote.
The OEM speakers weren't very good, so replace them with some 3 ways.

I think you can use a factory head units up until 2002, same style and connectors. You can find ones that have both CD & Cassette.
