Can I replace the pump head O-ring without removing the pump???

I have had 2 leaks for quite awhile and with the new fuel system going in I need to fix them now before I have much pressure going into the pump.

The fuel pin leaks and drips out the vent hole, but that is going to be an easy fix and all I have to do is remove the top of the pump.

The part I'm not sure about is if I can replace the pump head O-ring without removing the pump? Can I just remove the fuel lines and remove the bolts holding the head on, then slide it back just far enough to swap out the o-ring? This would make the job much easier and save a ton of time.

Thanks!

Yes you can, be careful and loosen the bolts just enough to expose the oring. Use a small pick and take off the old one. Clean the groove well and then stretch the new oring over the head and into the groove. Put a little grease on the new oring and tighten the head.

seeing all the little pieces in there the frustration it would cause if it came apart you are better off taking the pump off and resealing it... if all the o rings are the same age then plugging one leak could cause another. after doing my pump, if you start on it early and have all the pieces and special sockets if you need them, you could do it in a day.

Very true, good advice. Most of the reseals on the head without pulling the pump are for emergency on the road repairs.

I pulled the pump last time I resealed it and it was a pain in the butt, thats why I want to do it on the truck.
