can I put a '93 2wd auto tranny in my '93 4wd?

Hey,
I'm new here, but have been getting a lot of great info from you guys as I have been trying to diagnose a tranny problem. Without going too far into it right now, I have a '93 w250, I'm at about 320,000 miles, second tranny is acting like it's cooked. Thanks to all of your awesome past posts I have dropped the pan, changed the filter, checked all electronics, etc. Still no overdrive and squishy shifting. So, I am about to take it to the tranny shop, actually went in yesterday, talked about scheduling and whatnot, and had planned on getting an aftermarket t/c to try to firm her up a bit.
Well, this morining a really clean 2wd '93 LE shows up in town for sale. Bad body damage to left fender and right side of the bed, but 160,000 miles and a lot of good stuff I could use on my truck. Same price as the tranny rebuild I was about to do.

My question, how hard would it be to take the tranny out of the 2wd and put it in my 4wd?
Thanks a lot for the help. I will fill out my sig soon.
matt

Well, darn. I guess it was too good to be true, but I sure could use that bench seat, exhaust, taillights, front rotors, front bumper, etc, etc.... Not to mention a low mileage motor!

But, I love my truck, and sure don't need two dead trucks sitting in my yard. I suppose I'll spend the money on the rebuild instead.

You can use the front section, but you will have to reuse your overdrive section as it's unique to 4x4 trucks. Either have it rebuilt or have them swap the good parts into it.
Seems like alot of work to end up with a trans that has 160,000 miles on it already.

if you really wanted to do this you can. The 2 parts that you have to take from your 4x4 trans are the tailhousing case only(O/D) and the output shaft. The rest is the same. Not a hard process to swap over, either.

maybe swap the motor over too!

For all your conversion needs here are the two best sites that i have used.
http://www.advanceadapters.com/
&
http://www.novak-adapt.com/
I have used both of these companies when swapping a 350 into my jeep and an NP435 trans.
