calling all people who have done a 518 to 360 getrag swap

I'm in the process of gathering all the parts I need for my 360 getrag 4x4 swap. My big question is can I use the original 518 with transfer case CROSSMEMBER that's on my truck now or do I need a different one. OR can I just move my crossmember to suit. Also How much do I need to cut or add to my front and back drive shafts. Help from anyone who has actually done this would be much appreciated.. Thanks

The output shaft is much larger on the getag you will have to get another transfer I bought mine as a complete unit so you will need one from a getag

You might see if you can make a new plate that bolts to the bottom of the the trans and then to the cross. My crew went from a V8 4 speed to a 6BT 518 and it was a difference of something like an inch. We used a CNC machine and just copied the old one and made up a new one. I am sure someone who has actually done this conversion will chime in soon- it is Easter Weekend after all. Just a friendly note, we prefer to not be YELLED at here.

When I swaped my 93 I used the same crossmember. As far as doing the swap 2 days total work everything is there as far as wiring just had to cut A hole in the tunnel for shifter /clutch/brake pedals easy . I bought a rolled truck with everything in It. Lee

Just finished my swap. Crossmembers are the same. I used my auto one. Rear driveline needs lengthened by 5.15 inches. I made mine A little longer since its lifted. The front needs to be shortened by the same. Pretty easy swap other than the wieght of the trannys. Don't try it alone.

When I did my gas nv4500 swap in the 88 heavy half , i used the 518 crossmember and mount ...to make it fit i edged the trans bolt holes in the mount a lil with a torch and then touched it up with a grinder.. worked good for what i needed
