Cab and Chassis rear axle width question.

I put a wanted ad on C.L. for a donor truck for my Crew cab project. Got a call from a guy with a 92 W350 that he said someone else came and looked at but said they couldn't use it because it was a cab and chassis W350 so the rear axle is 8" narrower than a standard DRW truck... Anyone know if there is any truth to this?? I've heard the DRW axle is narrower than a SRW axle but not a C/C narrower than a DRW truck......

Frame width is the same. Springs,,,, The only difference in the spring packs, other then number of leafs, that I know of is the bushing bolt size in the spring eyes. I replaced my rear spring hangers on my 93 with some earlier ones and I had to drill the hangers out to accept the bigger bolts.

The cab and chassis axle is two inches wider than the single axle. If you are building a custom flat bed, you can make it the right width. If you put it under an eight foot wide bed, it would look lost.

So I would be looking at a cab-width flatbed? I was hoping to purchase one since the one on my last truck was home made and I was never happy with it, but that truck was SRW.

Manufactured flatbeds come in various widths as ordered. The single wheel axle is the most narrow, the cab/chassis model is 2" wider than the srw axle to accomodate the dually rims for spring clearance. The pickup box dually is 5 inches wider than the single wheel axle and is the widest. The dually pickup axle would make for a pretty wide flatbed by the time you covered the outside tire. The c/c axle will work well with flatbeds as they are designed to span the outside tires on c/c trucks. Not in disagreement with anyone, just trying to clarify based on my experiences.

a 8 ft w bed will be ok for a dulley axle ,if you are looking for a axle cube vans have wide axles and are usealy cheap.
