A/C components
A/C components
I just purchased an 85 4wd 350 crew and I am wanting to put a/c into the truck. I know all the parts I will be needing, but the one specific part that I am looking for now is the evaporator housing. Does anybody know if I will need an entire housing or can the housing I have now be modified for the evaporator and lines?
Ya, I am thinking that may be the ticket. I Am already thinking of getting a donor truck for the diesel swap, so I guess I will try to make sure it comes with a/c.
What years does the 85 have similar parts that will fit? I am new to the dodge world. If it was a jeep I could tell you every year for every jeep and what was different every year. I have lots of learning to do on the dodge stuff.

Dodge trucks from 81-93 are all pretty much the same...bit of difference between gasser and diesel components sometimes.
If you get a donor CTD truck (89-93) then it will more then likely have all the A/C components you need. If you want to get the A/C working on the gasser in the CC then you will need a different set of A/C lines and A/C compressor.
The 89/90 and early 91 cummins trucks ran the C-171 A/C compressor, same style used on the gas powered trucks from the late 70's on up to the 90's. Then in 91.5-93 the cummins powered trucks swapped to the, now very common, Sanden A/C compressor. Now the lines that hook to these A/C compressors are different, so depending on what year motor you end up with as your CTD donor will dictate what parts you will need.
If it was my decision I wouldn't bother with the A/C until I had swapped in the cummins, then you'll only be replacing, and recharging the components once.

Ya, I would agree with you in waiting till the CTD swap. The only problem is that may be a while before I can get around to it and I will be moving to Cali in the interim. I can assure you my wife will not wait for the a/c to be done! I will have to think about this one.
