not sticking out at all i presume??

try some gum or putty on the end of the other half of the key....
might be able to stick a thin piece ot metal down there and hold it still and zap it with the welder to get it fuse itself to th key.

It's not that hard to pull the lock cylinder, you might have better luck with it out where you can work on it. The broken piece would probably fall out if you banged the cylinder on the workbench a couple times.

To pull the cylinder: Remove the shroud around the top of the column, there are a couple screws underneath and the shroud snaps together. Remove the switch, you'll need a tamper proof T-20 - or you can just knock the anti tamper pins out of the screws with a punch and use a regular T-20 torx driver. With the key in the OFF position, push the little button on the cylinder housing to unseat the cylinder, then turn the key to LOCK and pull out the cylinder. If all else fails you can take the cylinder to a lock shop and they'll get the key out.

I have a thin magnet that I've used to jiggle broken keys out twice...Comes in handy.

No sir, not yet but i'm going to keep trying.I dont think a magnet will work because the key is made of brass. The truck starts fine but I would rather not have a key in it all the time.I tried getting some adhesive on the old key and that did not work.I would rather not buy a new assembly, but nothing has worked yet.

Drive your truck to any locksmith. Locksmiths have several different types of broken key extractors. One thing you might try yourself is a torch tip cleaner. see if you can slide it in the notch of the key then put sideways pressure on it while you try to draw it out. The rings on the tip cleaner may grab it enough to pull it out... same concept as a key extractor.

Take a popsicle stick, trim to get in far enough to contact your key. Then put a small piece of duct tape across your key area. Put a small amount of contact cement on the end of the popsicle stick, be careful not to goop the keyhole up. Put it against the key and stick the popsicle stick to the tape. Let harden and slowly pull out. It took me, a buddy and a six pack to come up with that, but it worked!!
