Bump The Timing?

I read Wanna's sticky on timing bumping, but I still don't get it. Where is the reference point as I just bought truck and I don't know whats been done beforehand. Is it next to the bolt in the photo or somewhere else? Where is it @ factory setting? THANX AND SORRY FOR BEING SO STUPID. I JUST DON'T WANT TO MESS THE ENGINE UP!

No worries, you can push the pump right to the head without hurting the engine. There are two lines (reference marks) one on the pump by the nut you can see. It is best seen from the fender here is mine in the picture. The other is on the timing cover. Hope this helps.

Wow you have more Cummins than there are in all Southern California.

Is the Pinto a 2.3

There is a some guy around town that put a hollowed out 71 Pinto Hatchback on his 428 Cobra Jet, narrowed 31 spline 9" with tubs, looks complety stock, yea right.

the Gimpo is 2.0 german Sohc 'powered'?, the 1.6l was a pushrod engine and only avail with stick because it was so gutless. 73 was the last year for skinny bumpers and 74 was the first year for 2.3 engine.

IIRC, they used to use pinto front ends in rail type dragsters. I have a friend that put a super charged engine in his pinto and it also looked completely stock except for the scoop in the hood for the blower. I don't remember how big but it was flat out fast...Mark

This is something not stated in many writeups: There is a swivel bracket bolt on the IP head bracket. I believe you need to loosen the bolt so you can rotate the IP.

Yes we use them in Ca. for dirt track mini stock race car's and there are several in the 160 + hp range they will flat out Boogie if you tune them right.

Yup, and on my truck if i want to go all the way to the head I'll have to enlarge the slot in the bracket. At a little more than an 1/8" and that is all it will go because of it.

When I replaced my IP, they must have adjusted that bracket because the instructions said to push it all the way to the head. It nearly touches the head, it might even touch it...Mark
