I'm into racing ATVs and this one company sold this really simple mod +2hp. I think it sold for $100+. No one would reveal what it was because the people that thought of it and did the dyno time and R&D deserve the money countless hrs. testing and thinking. That is how I look at this, those guys they developed this product to benefit our addictive passion let them make the money. Old Smokey is the orginal get one off of him or make your own. Don't copy his and sell a boatlload of them for half the price. Nothing wrong with competition and making things cheaper. Stealing designs is wrong just because it isn't patented doesn't make it right

I guess if my fuel pin excursion is too great causing a leak I will grind off a little less on the next one!

I've got one you can borrow. When you spend that much time on a dyno doing R&D, road testing, building redesign after redesign, creating mysterious fuel leaks, having to disassemble a pump due to a stuck part, balancing smoke with power, obtaining maximum power and torque, and having a machine shop cut and harden each batch (in small quantities), $200 really isn't out of line. It's not just the part you are paying for, its knowing that it is tested, and will work perfectly.

I'm sure you can build your own, I did. I just know how much of a PITA it is to get it right. Heck, maybe you can get one cheaper from bullydog. They copied my design. As long as they can machine it properly with the three different radii it should work pretty well.

Just venting a little....

I'm sorry Mike. I forget that "Old Smoky" has a face and is a real person. I'll save my pennies and get one from you.

Don't worry about it Mark.

I'm all for competition. I like to see vendors one upping each other with new products every year driving quality and performance. What torques me off is when someone takes credit for anothers hard work - bullydog for example. If one of you guys wants to start making your own original fuel pin I would be all for it. You might find something I missed. Anyway, I didn't mean to highjack the thread.

From what I can tell Old Smokey, you have left a lot of acheivments with 1st gen trucks. Almost everyone here has an "old smokey mount" or "old smokey fuel pin". Sorry that such a large company ripped you off. Everyone knows who did it first and I think everyone here knows who to thank.

As far as materials I need to check the hand book.
any luck with making these?

a 2axis Wire EDM ought to be pretty fast...(like 2 min) Could stack 10 high or so, hit go and take a break.
seems drill blank would be the best material, tho a tad tough to 'attach'
could be annealed and tapped for SS

No not yet, since i'm still in college (mechanical engineering) i don't have as much time as i I would like to. I plan on going over to the shop this weekend after i finish dimensioning the cad file someone sent me. I will be sure to let everyone know how it goes, The nice thing is, if it work good, all i have to do is throw in a floppy disk and make some more

Mike,

Do you sell these direct like you used to with the BHAF mount or just thru vendors? I know someone mentioned Dyno-Mite Diesel Performance as a source. Where do you recommend? I know that there are some of us who would rather pay for your R&D than do the R&D ourselves.

Just curious

My guess is that you will need the pin case hardened to achieve acceptible wear.

I think if you came up with your own new profile that was different, and it was marketed as different,, Smokey might welcome the competition.

This is the fundamental building block behind the development of technology and capitalism. Competitors borrow each other's non-patented ideas to make better products, and then leapfrog each other.

For now i would stick with smokey's pin, cause i trust it.
