brake shudder?

Greeting, I'm assuming that I may have some warped rotors? I get a prety good shudder/vibration when comming to a stop on my 91 w250 regular cab? It seems to be getting worse. Any suggestions before I tear into it and tips on pulling the rotors?

thanks

Steve

If you're gonna go through the trouble of pulling the rotors to be turned, go ahead and install new shoes/pads as well.

Make sure the tires are indeed round. I got slack once with keeping my tire pressures right, and had one tire wear stupid. It's warped! Egg shaped is more accurate. Pretty much ruined.

. . . . . . and on the front, it presents as though the rotor's warped.

I also once ran some 16.5 Eaton steel rims. In my application, they were crap. They kept fracturing at the weld of the rim itself. I expect the after welding heat treatment (relieving) was inadequate. I imagine the rim was flexing while in standard use, such amounting to cold working at the weld, resulting in it breaking.

. . . . .. Are your rims round?

Your problem could also be a sticky caliper, which is common on our trucks. If the shaking seems to continue after you let the breaks off, that will likely be the trouble. Otherwise, your diagnosis is most likely correct. I'd follow the advice around installing new pads as well.

I've had the most trouble with tire jockeys who overtighten and undertighten the lugnuts. They get some to tight and unbelievably some are just finger tight. This warps the rotors. They just did it to me again on my Blazer cause I didn't watch them and make sure they used a torque wrench.
