Borgeson shaft install gone bad

So the borgeson got installed this morning and got it done in record time , about 40 minutes. Great piece of equipment and what a differance in my steering . I have only had the truck 2 years and the lot I bought it from had put new stock bushings in the existing shaft just before I bought it. Didn't take long to wear it out and hence the borgeson replacement on my part. So the shaft goes in lickity split and the shaft gets drilled on the existing flat spot to hold the bolt. Heres where the problem came in. after about half an hour down the road feeling really good about the new steering I feel a vibration on a corner that feels like low power steering fluid . Sure enough the steering box is all wet I I figure that the seal got screwed up in the install. Upon taking it apart what really happened was the drill hole was too deep and the centre of the shaft is hollow and the drill depth was just a blonde one too deep. So now out comes the box and new shaft ordered. OH well live and learn. I didn't see this issue on any of the install threads here and was wondering am I the first dummy to run into this problem.

Wish I would have read that one archer. In the half hour I did drive it it was an awesome differance . My stock shaft was well worn though.

Why are people "drilling" the inputs to install these Borgeson shafts? I've heard about this several times now over the past couple years.

I have not installed one yet but from reading the sticky thread on it it believe it is to make a dimple for the set screw to sit in.

how did you do yours?

No offense, but I can't believe one would drill that far into the shaft... It isn't even that important.. you could just tighten the screw in witout even putting the dimple in and it would be fine... The slip joint on the borgeson shaft becomes corroded and usally seizes up pretty quick anyway!!

In reality your right but Borgeson does recomend it in the instalation instructions. Some are more knowledgable than others and I guess I fit into the others category. Not the end of the world just a little more money and work in the end. Its all good. Now that the shaft is done I think I may tackle the pump mods next . Hope this one go better than the last . This site is definatley a great source for information.

i took my truck to have the shaft installed and a day later i get a call saying that it might be longer than expected because he drilled through my steering box input shaft and was going to put a bolt through it to put it on. needless to say i had him order me the steering box and he paid for it but then put it all on myself.
