Borgeson rag joint
 
I got my new steering shaft today as well as a new rag joint from Borgeson. Has anyone used the Borgeson rag joint? It has 2 bolts and two pins instead of 4 pins. The threaded parts are slightly smaller than the original and all 4 have nuts and lock washers. It looks like I will have to grind off the threaded nubs on the plates that sandwich the rag joint itself in order to get enough threaded end to get a nut on. I am also assuming that the pins hold the rag joint to the upper (factory) steering shaft flange and the bolts are used to tie the new shaft. I had to saw off a couple of the fasteners so using the originals won't fly. Anyone used the Borgeson rag joint?? Hopefully my new steering box will be in tomorrow and I can get it on all at one time. I have one nice temperature day tomorrow. Thats important when you are out on the driveway during January in Illinois!

I put the borgeson in my truck, but I recall having 2 bolts and 2 pins.it was a direct bolt in unit.

I did mine a couple of years and remember having the same problem. I think I may have used the old pins, or did some crafty engineering to make it work.

or heck, the truck is right outside, let me take look. Hang on a sec.

Okay, i'm back! Apparently, I used 2 new bolts with washers and nuts that came with borgesen shaft and then the old 12 point pins from dodge.

Thats pretty much what I decided to do. Where you used the nuts and bolts did you grind off those threaded nubs that the old pins screwed into?

I can't remember what I did to make it work, but I do remember thinking that it should have bolted up just like the old one did!! hehe.

Knowing my bad habits, I probably force threaded the new bolts thru the old threads and then torqued down the new nuts.


I know, I'm not the best guy here to be taking advice from :P
