Borgeson Question

I notice Borgeson has two seperate steering shafts listed for 1st.Gen. trucks.

The better looking shaft states that "must have removable rag-joint".

How do I tell if a truck has this "removable" joint??

Can the 91.5 truck use this better shaft??

Thanks.

Get the one that uses the "rag joint" and save yourself a lot of time and grief.
It will probably outlast your truck.

The way to tell is to look at the steering shaft where it comes out of the fire wall. The metal part of the rag joint on that side will either be welded on or have a spline and a pin, kind of like the coupler to steering gear connection. I have a late 91, mine was pinned. I used the double U-joint set up, but had to shorten the inside section of the shaft a bit to make it fit.

My 92 was welded on but the new shaft was still the one best upgrade I have done to the truck anyway. The rag joint is not usually the problem.

I think I used the cheaper one on mine. Works great. PITA getting the roll pin out of the stock coupler, though. Be careful to block that shaft with a stout piece of wood jammed in behind before you start wailin' on it.
