Boosted launch

How much boost can I launch with on slicks before I have to worry about breaking the input shaft?

What size slicks? Big single or dual slicks?

Big single they are off of a 10.5 outlaw car I forget the exact size. I do belive they are plenty big enough to hook.

Sorta depends on what OD of input shaft is. Sig says 'built 518' but that could mean a lot of things.

ask Bc, I remember him shearing his a while back

E:

If memory serves me right, and it might not be, he would usually do about a 10psi launch but got a little aggressive one day and went to 20ish? and then his input shaft became a 2 piece.

The shafts are stock in the trans. I have kolene steels and red alto clutches, kevlar bands and aluminum servos.

Just enough to realize the input-shaft assembly's weakest point. From an unknown manufacturing flaw/defect, worn components, to cumulative fatigue. How many miles are on your stock/OEM shaft?

Some just plain twist the thing in two. I stripped the splines between the shaft and it's associated clutch-drum.
This occurred as I was "Scuffing the tires" on the return road prior to getting on the track. Never made it to the track. The splines passed a recent FSM instructed inspection. Cumulative fatigue.

Boosted launches busts stuff. - Ya gotta pay to play.

I busted the intermediate-shaft well before I busted the input.

I can't remember when I busted the output-shaft . . .

Further, we're just talking about the transmission shafts. Remember the rest of the drive-train.

Boosted launches busts stuff. Billet-alloy shaft$ (and other $tuff) often remedies things.

It can get REAL expensive, in a hurry.

But when your 6400lb cinder-block on 33" all terrain radials cuts a 1.69 60', the look on your unsuspecting opponents face, is priceless.

I'd start with around 10psi boosted launches.

Good luck.

How much added stress do you think the 4wd creates vs the 2wd?

About 300 or so pounds of extra iron to slingshot down the track.
