I checked on their web site today and the nearest dealer was in Little Rock Ark. I didnt check beyond that because I figured the shipping and handlind chargers would kill me! I didnt think that they had any close by. Was I wrong? Thanks for the info. Mike

I've had 0 and -5 degree F starts with one group 31 1050 cca battery, cranks slow, but lights up on the 3rd compression stroke. I'd prefer to have it plugged in, but its not necessary, I like to have heat faster .

22 F here this morning, started right up without cycling the grid heaters. I love it.

We do the same thing wanna does, 3 years and we rotate them out into tractors. Dead ones go back for recycling.

This morning it was 17F. The 93 started straight away after cycling the heaters once. I'm running one group 31 Interstate battery, the one they recommend for the truck. I think it has 1100 cranking amps. Last winter it got down to +5F. It still worked OK without plugging in, just a little slow to crank.

I appreciate all the feed back from yall. Yall told me what I needed to know. I will most likely just be putting ome battery back in. I am trying to get in touch with the local Interstate dealer but he doesnt ever seem to be in . Yall are in much more colder weather than I am and if one is working for you, then it ought to keep me running well. Again thanks to all of your posts to help me out. Yall are great! Mike

A couple of days ago I replaced the second battery on my truck. The original battery lasted 6 years and the second one 7 years. While hunting, I have had my truck sit in the bush for a couple of days, and with the temperature at -29º F she started right up. My current battery is a group 31 battery with a 1125 CCA. In addition to the battery it is equally important that all connections are free of any crud and are tight.

AIK. thanks for the input. It definately does not get that cold here. Sometimes I wished that it would though. I am still trying to find a battery local that has 1125 cca. The most I can find so far are 900 cca. I will just keep searching. Again Thanks. Mike

I'm gonna go with "Wanna on this one...I've been using "group 31" batteries since the truck was new...no problems except in the most extreme temps...
I had a no start situation in -50*C...it would fire but not hold on...

pb...

Thanks Pastor Bob. I am haveing trouble finding a group 31 battery with 1000 cca or better. Ive called the locals around and most do not carry a commercial battery. Did not think that it would be this hard to find a battery! Even the guy that sells Interstates said he cant get one! . The local auto zone said they do not carry any but to come and see what they have. Do any of yall have any suggestions or am I going about this t6he wrong way? Even the new Wal-Mart Supercenter does not have one. The biggest they had was a 850 cca! Again thanks Pastor Bob. If anyone has any ideals please let me know. Thanks again Mike

Interstate doesn't make that battery, they only make Interstate battery's. The other batterys they sell are cheapies to compete with Walmart and Autozone.

If your cheap 1 battery isn't up to the task it will eventually ruin your starter.

Rick, My 93 only came with one battery from the factory. The Interstate I am looking for was the Mega-Tron it had better than 1000 cca. The local dealer here said he cant get one shipped to him. The same with Auto Zone. They also said they do not carry tthe group 31 batteries and can not get them either. I cant believe that everyone else can get a battery but here in podunk Eastland they dont seem to know what I am talking about. The gut at the local auto part store said that he had a dodge diesel replacement battery for 55.00. I asked how many cca and he told me 650. After reading these threads 650 isnt going to cut it. Or am I wrong? I tell them all I have a 93 Dodge 1 ton Cummins Turbo Diesel so I dont see as to where they are makeing the mistake. Am I asking for the wrong thing? Or is everybody in this town just as as me? Again thanks for the info and help yall. Mike

no you need the bigger battery i think the 600 cca is for the 94 up and its one of two did you try napa?
or call interstate battery hot line
1-800-272-6548

or exide
1-800-START-IT

some one can help you for sure
also a 31 battery is pretty standard in
class 8 trucks so any heavy-equipment truck, farm equipment
shop should be able to get you one
